Quick answers about how Ventura Water Damage works. For questions about a specific job, the provider you are connected with is the right person to ask.

How the service works

Is Ventura Water Damage a contractor?

No. Ventura Water Damage is a free referral service. We connect you with an independent local restoration company, and that business does the work, gives the estimate, and is responsible for its own license, permits, insurance, and workmanship.

How much does it cost to use this service?

Nothing. Using the website and submitting a request are free, and you are never obligated to hire anyone. Providers support the service. See our referral disclosure for details.

How many companies will contact me?

We share your request with one independent local provider who serves your area, not a long list of companies.

Which areas do you cover?

Ventura and nearby communities, including Oxnard, Port Hueneme, Channel Islands Beach, Camarillo, Somis, Santa Paula, Ojai, Meiners Oaks, Oak View, Casitas Springs, Faria Beach, La Conchita, and Carpinteria.

How do I check a provider?

Ask for its California contractor license number and look it up at cslb.ca.gov, ask for proof of insurance, and get a written estimate before work starts.

Water damage and insurance

Where is my main water shutoff?

Usually near the front of the house where the water line comes in, or in the meter box near the street. Find it before you need it.

Is it safe to stay in the house?

It depends. Stay out of rooms with standing water near electrical equipment, sagging ceilings, or sewage. If the home has no safe power, water, or sanitation, stay elsewhere.

What's the difference between clean, gray, and black water?

Restoration companies sort water by contamination: clean water from a supply line, gray water from appliances like dishwashers and washers, and black water from sewage or outside flooding. Black water needs the most careful cleanup.

Does homeowners insurance cover flooding?

Standard homeowners policies typically exclude flood from outside surface water. Flood coverage is usually a separate policy. Ask your insurer.

Do I have to use my insurer's preferred contractor?

Generally you can choose your own contractor, but read your policy and talk with your insurer first.

Can you help me with my insurance claim?

We can explain how claims usually work and connect you with a restoration company that can document the damage. We can't tell you what your policy covers or promise a payment. The California Department of Insurance helps consumers with claim questions.
